Of cabbages and kings
On a serious note, my Romance Diva buddy Mima wrote a very interesting post over at EREC regarding the professional iffyness of the Eppie contest. Now, I don’t belong to EPIC and I’ve never entered the Eppies. When they hand out the awards, it has never made much impact on me. Not as much as, say, the Ritas, but then I don’t buy books based on which awards they win. Nonetheless, I think she made several interesting points. E-publishing, which has always fought an uphill battle for equal recognition, does NOT have an equality-based professional literary contest. Not that such a thing is necessary to prove a book is good, but it’s one of those “This is what the big guys do, so we should, too” sorts of things. In any case, I merely bring the article to your attention.
Now, onto the vital-to-life things.
There’s no school today. The roads are covered in ice after raining last night before the temps dropped into the low teens. This will at least offer DD the opportunity to catch up on all her late homework. *sigh* She keeps forgetting to take her ADD meds. And it’s not like I can remember to remind her. Hell, at the hour she gets up for school, we’re all lucky I’m not standing in my jammies drooling like a mental invalid.
The writing is going pretty well. I got 1600 words a couple of days ago, which was awesome. I’m going to see if I can get another 1K today.

Oh those early mornings!!! We don’t do mornings well either. Never have, never will. I’m so glad our boys are not morning people- such a blessing!!
Hi, Sela! Just wanted to tell you, I bought Not Quite Dead a little bit ago and finally read it. LOVED it!
Hey Sela, it took me awhile to find you again. Great to see you have something new coming out from Samhain. Very cool!
Must say I’m so happy not to have to worry about kids in school anymore. I’ve never been a morning person–though I’ve trained myself to do it for work every day.
Happy Holidays to you and your family!
