Serenity Now!

I’m over at Beyond the Veil today wondering where they keep the serenity and when are they gonna crack open the can?

For the record

Antibacterial gel + papercuts = A Very Bad Thing.

Ouch.

How was your Thanksgiving?

Ours was wonderful, but small. DS had a cold that on Monday we thought might be the Piggy Flu. Turns out it wasn’t, but it put our plans into a spin for a while.

Anyway, MIL and FIL were able to come down. SIL is having some severe knee issues that will require surgery this next week, so if you could remember her in your good thoughts, we’d appreciate it. In any case, those knee issues meant that she couldn’t handle the ride down here, so they stayed up in Chicago. I nearly met a half-semi-step-ish SIL (long story and I’m still not sure I get it) but her DH was too sick to travel, so they weren’t able to come, either.

So there were six of us around the dinner table. Or should I say, the “groaning board.”

Turkey that was covered in bacon and glazed with cranberry sauce
Mashed potatoes
Chipotle sweet potato gratin
Roasted sweet potatoes and brussel sprouts
Green bean casserole
Cranberry pecan relish
Traditional dressing
Cornbread and bacon dressing
Gravy
Rolls

Oh, plus pumpkin pie and chocolate pecan pie. Can’t forget those.

I still have one bag of stale bread leftover from stuffing we didn’t make. I’m thinking bread pudding. I’m also thinking that the bananas I bought are juuuuuuust about ready to make banana bread. I’d better do it today because tomorrow they’ll have fruit flies and by Monday they’ll be liquid. I like ‘em black when I make my nanner bread.

Our guests went home yesterday afternoon. We didn’t go shopping on Black Friday, but we did discover that the tags on our cars expire at the end of the month so we need to go do emissions testing today so I can go stand in line at the DMV on Monday.

I look at it as an opportunity to get out of the house and spend some alone-time with the wip, which is going surprisingly well. I’m rewriting at the moment, which isn’t as arduous as it sounds. At least right now it isn’t. Since I wrote the rough draft, I know where I’m going and I’m taking the opportunity to layer in my external conflict and add some important secondaries who showed up in notes the first time around.

Oh, and make it funny.

Hey! I got my author copies on Wednesday, did I tell y’all? I think I forgot with all the cleaning and cooking and RWA *headdesking* Anyway, I re-read Carolina Wolf, wished I could tweak some things, which is the danger of reading your old stuff, and was pleasantly surprised to discover that yes, it did actually have a few chuckle-worthy moments. :)

The deadline for entering the RITAs is coming up. Gotta have it postmarked by Tuesday. Do y’all think that Carolina Wolf is worth a shot?

I am frustrated

I swear, I try to blog. I honestly do. But it looks like ATT Uverse … or someone … despises me. I’ll be able to get here for several days in a row, then poof. I can’t see my website at all, although I know that other people can!

I’ve been putting off dealing with these people for far too long. They make me feel stupid, but I just can’t take the uncertainty of not knowing whether or not my website will work today. Very frustrating.

Also, I’m sick. DH and I have both been down with colds all weekend. His was really bad over the weekend, and mine was just middling, but enough to make me tired. Until yesterday. Now I feel rotten and he’s still in bed, taking a sick day.

Too bad. My house likes like a bomb site. DS is Star of the Week and we haven’t done his poster. I missed a judging deadline which I HAVE to make today. And I’m only 1500 words into Carolina Dream (I hate that title — will have to change it.)

I bet y’all didn’t know ….

that Monopoly could be played as a contact sport. Especially when the dog is involved. He currently owns a railroad and St James Place.

Happy Christmas is Over! Almost …

You know how everything always happens at once? Events never happen at evenly spaced intervals. Oh no. It’s usually a bunch of vitally important things that you HAVE to be at, all overlapping by an hour, on the same day, across town from each other.

Welcome to my Friday.

I’m not actually here. I’m in Indianapolis. Or at least on my way there. I’m also blogging at Beyond the Veil AND at the Samhain Blog.

So in the spirit of saying “I can’t take it anymore!” this is nothing more than a blog post telling you to go to the Samhain blog to read the real post, which should, God willing, go live at 3pm EST. Given the way my luck is running, I’ll come home to find that techno-wizardry has bitten me on the ass. Again.

I will be so glad once Christmas is officially over.

Item 2: If I’m not blogging, I’m not writing. I hide from my blog in abject, cringing shame and guilt when I’m not writing. My house, however, looks pretty daggone good for the tail end of Christmas.

Item 3: A blogger named Candance won a download of Heart of the Sea in the Beyond the Veil Cool Yule Contest, but she hasn’t contacted me and I have no way to get hold of her. selacarsen at gmail dot com

Lookie what I did!

Isn’t it pretty? My library had a class on Henna Tattoos on Monday night, so I went and got this! The lady who did it was so fast! She talked while she did everyone’s hands and we learned a little about mehendi and henna and when it was used. I was just excited to have my hands get all prettied up! It should last for about two weeks, so we’ll see.

Today’s headline when I logged in: “Clay Aiken: ‘Yes, I’m gay.’”

Dude.

We knew.

Fairy Tales and New Shoes

Blogging about Fairy Tales over at Beyond the Veil today. What’s your favorite fairy tale? Have you ever used a fairy tale as inspiration for your own writing?

And new shoes! On sale! Are they not toooooo cute for words? Mine are all black, though, no houndstooth. But très chic, n’est-ce pas? *gg*

(And would you believe I wrote this blog yesterday and forgot to hit Publish? Oy.)
